#NSRmemories What does NSR mean to you?
We are asking former NSR competitors to share their memories of NSR and we have had a wonderful response!
Greg Searle rowed for Hampton School as a boy and then went on most notably to win gold in the Coxed Pair at the 1992 Olympics with his brother Jonny. He won a bronze in the four coxless four at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta and was placed 4th in the coxless pair at Sydney 2000. Greg retired from rowing but made a come-back ahead of London 2012 and won bronze in the eight.
‘I have great memories of competing at National School. It was the first time I experienced the excitement and sound of six lane racing. It was such a privilege to be part of the Hampton School 1st eight and to line up alongside the likes of Shrewsbury, St Edwards and Eton College with Matthew Pinsent sitting in the middle of the boat. To then make a great start and lead all the other schools in Britain from stroke one to the 2000m mark was amazing and a great experience as a 16 year old. I loved it.’
