Sophie Hosking MBE #NSRmemories

#NSRmemories What does NSR mean to you?

We are asking former NSR competitors to share their memories of NSR and we have had a wonderful response!

First up is Sophie Hosking MBE.  Sophie was a regular on the British lightweight sculling  team, since 2007 not long after she won medals at NSR! Sophie won a gold medal at  the London 2012 Olympics, held at Dorney Lake, with her partner Kat Copeland.

I raced for Kingston Grammar School at NSR.

Attached is a photo of me and Hannah Elsy winning Championship Pairs in 2004. It was a special win particularly as we managed to do the double that year winning Championships Eights too. I have many fond memories of racing at Nat Schools and to me it's a very special regatta. It was the pinnacle of our racing season at school - our Olympics. I can still remember the nerves sitting on the start line and how much it meant to be successful at the regatta. Getting to race with great friends, who are still friends to this day, added to the specialness of the occasion.

For all those athletes missing out this year, try and stay patient. This time will pass and there will be more opportunities to come for you in the sport should you want them. Use this time to maximise and focus on the things that you can control and practice to help you be in a good place when things go back to normal.
